Buildings
Department launched the new Code of Practices (COP) for Fire Safety in
Building in Year 2012, covering a lot of new requirements on fire rated
door, e.g. Fire Resistance Rating (FRR) instead of Fire Rated Protection
(FRP), etc. As smoke rather than fire would induce greater extent of
damage or threat to life, smoke seal requirement and testing criteria,
i.e. BS EN 1634-3, are also included. It is different from the Standard
of BS 476, which prevailed over the past years.
In
the talk, the speaker will introduce the topics like recent research
and development activities, industrial practices, regulatory and
commercial demand changes, European fire tests (difference between the
Standard of BS 476 and BS EN 1634) and principles behind fire rated door
together with smoke control function.
Speaker -- Ms. Sammi CHENG
Sammi
is currently working for a HOKLAS fire testing laboratory as laboratory
manager. She has abundant working experience in fire test of building
material in the testing industry in Hong Kong. She is graduated from
Queensland University of Technology in Australia awarded with MSc degree
in Fire Safety Engineering at University of Central Lancashire, United
Kingdom. She is working as a technical expert for Certification Body
accredited by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service in third-party product
certification system for passive fire products as well. Her major
duties include fire test for various passive fire products, such as fire
resistance door, wall, ceiling and its associated system and the smoke
control test for doors.

The maximum number of participants is 200. Priority will be given to
the members of the organizer and supporting organizations. The deadline
of application is 15 May 2014 (Thursday). Name of successful members
will
be informed by confirmation email no later than 22 May 2014 (Thursday),
which has to be presented at the registry of the venue entrance for
verification. If the applicants have not received the confirmation
e-mail on or before 22 May 2014, their applications will be regarded as
not successful.
